Alexandria Junior Legion Red Completes Doubleheader Sweep of Bemidji Woodpeckers

Dayton Bye’s pitching and hitting, plus a late rally, highlight two 2‑1 and 3‑2 victories

The Alexandria Junior Legion Red baseball club delivered a decisive doubleheader sweep over the Bemidji Woodpeckers Junior Legion 17U on June 24, winning 2-1 and 3-2 in back-to-back contests.

First-Game Dominance

Dayton Bye took the mound and threw all seven innings, surrendering just one unearned run while striking out six batters. At the plate, Gunnar Gravley sparked the offense with a 2-for-2 performance that included a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

Alexandria’s offense clicked early, but the game remained tight until the final inning, when the Red team capitalized on a timely hit to secure the narrow victory.

Second-Game Thriller

The nightcap saw Alexandria trail early before erupting for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch a 3-2 win. Dayton Bye continued his strong showing, going 2-for-4 with an RBI that helped seal the game.

Starter Isaac Christensen logged 3 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on four hits, while relievers shut down the Woodpeckers the rest of the way.

Base-running proved a key factor, as Alexandria stole five bases in the game. Liam Sinning and Wyatt Tvrdik each contributed two stolen bases, underscoring the team’s aggressive approach on the bases.

Looking ahead, the Red squad is slated to face East Grand Forks on June 30, a matchup that will test the momentum built from the recent doubleheader.
