Daniel Jackson Etches His Name in College Baseball History
Georgia's junior catcher Daniel Jackson has been crowned the 48th recipient of the Golden Spikes Award, cementing his place as the most electrifying player of the 2026 college season.
Jackson's combination of power and speed was unprecedented: he smashed 32 home runs while stealing 25 bases, becoming the first catcher in NCAA Division I history to reach the 30‑home‑run and 25‑stolen‑base plateau in a single year.
His statistical dominance extended beyond those milestones. He topped the nation in total bases (212) and runs scored (88), ranked second in hits (100), RBIs (87) and home runs (32), and posted a .379 batting average with a conference‑leading 1.276 on‑base percentage.
The accolades piled up alongside the numbers. Jackson captured the SEC Player of the Year, the Triple Crown, the Dick Howser Trophy and the Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, while also being named the national Player of the Year by D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game.
His performance helped the Bulldogs clinch a school‑record 53 victories, secure the SEC regular‑season title for the first time since 2008 and win their inaugural SEC Tournament championship, ultimately finishing third at the College World Series.
Jackson joins an exclusive club of three players who have logged at least 30 homers and 25 steals in a season, and he is the first catcher to achieve the feat, a distinction that places him alongside 2024 Golden Spikes winner Charlie Condon in the annals of Georgia baseball.
