The Valley West baseball squad opened the weekend with a 7‑3 triumph over Hazle Twp., a game that hinged on early offensive bursts and a steady arm on the mound.
Early Momentum
Tyler Keck’s RBI double in the top of the second inning ignited the offense, and Jason Ervin followed with a clutch double in the third that pushed the lead further. Dominick Zazycki contributed three hits, while Keck and Ervin each added two RBIs to the scoreboard.
Pitching Performance
Chase Swircek delivered a solid outing, scattering five hits over 4.1 innings, striking out seven batters and walking just one. His control kept Hazle Twp. at bay long enough for the offense to pull away.
Other Baseball Results
Northwest continued its winning ways with a 16‑3 victory over Nanticoke. Jordan Miner tossed 3.1 innings and fanned eight, while Henry Wagner collected three hits and three runs. Frank Biller and Cameron Forth each supplied two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs apiece. Ryan Briggs added a pair of hits and an RBI to round out the attack.
Kingston/Forty Fort also secured a comfortable win, highlighted by three‑hit performances from Ryan Bobb and Brayden Tarnalicki, each of whom drove in two runs. Chase Evans worked 4.2 innings and struck out seven, while TJ Needle closed the game with 2.1 innings of shutout relief, fanning three and allowing only two hits and one run.
Softball Championship
Mountain Top captured the District 16 Minor Softball championship, defeating Hanover 14‑4. Kenzie Dohman led the offense with three hits and three runs, and Emma Hogan contributed two hits and an RBI. Adrianna Perugino earned the win in the circle, while Lane Myers and Kendal Erkeiser added multi‑hit efforts. Hanover’s Quinn Farrell collected two hits, and single hits were recorded by Kaycee Wassell, Carlee Dennis, Bella Deangelo, Lucy Frank and Milly Kalish.
