Athlete‑Centric Vision at Hart High School
On a bright Saturday morning, the Special Olympics Spring Games unfolded on the fields of Hart High School in Santa Clarita, drawing families, volunteers, and local residents into a day of competition and camaraderie.
Teams faced off in basketball and bocce, showcasing skill and sportsmanship while the crowd cheered each basket and precise roll.
Travis Bannerman, manager of volunteer services for the Santa Clarita Special Olympics, highlighted the event’s deeper purpose, noting that every activity is designed to foster courage, bravery, and teamwork among athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The organization, which has offered more than 30 sports for over five decades, provides free, year‑round training and a supportive environment for children and adults alike, reinforcing its athlete‑centered mission.
Looking ahead, the Special Olympics plans to keep the momentum alive with a series of athletic events throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, ensuring that the spirit of inclusion continues year‑round.
