Skidmore College announced this week that former professional goalkeeper Greg Monroe has been appointed as the new goalkeeper coach for the men's soccer program ahead of the 2026 season. The hiring brings a wealth of experience from Monroe's playing days at Siena University, Austin FC II and Hartford Athletic.
A pedigree built on high‑level competition
Monroe’s career spanned collegiate soccer at Siena University and two USL Championship sides, where he honed his shot‑stopping instincts and command of the penalty area. Head coach Brad Campion said the club was drawn to Monroe’s blend of experience and enthusiasm, noting that his background aligns perfectly with the program’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
In his new role, Monroe will oversee all aspects of goalkeeper development, from daily training sessions to match‑day preparation and individualized player plans. He will work closely with the existing squad to raise the competitive edge of the goalkeeping unit, aiming to transform it into a championship‑ready component of the team.
Monroe expressed excitement about joining the Skidmore community and contributing to a culture that prizes excellence and continuous improvement. “I’m thrilled to bring my experience to a program that is clearly on the rise,” he said, adding that he looks forward to helping the team achieve its championship aspirations.
Looking ahead
The college’s athletic department reaffirmed its commitment to providing top‑tier coaching and player development, signaling that Monroe’s arrival is part of a broader strategy to elevate the men's soccer program within the liberal arts landscape.
