Eric Zyung Leads CMHS Boys Soccer into a New Era

Summer training at Hauser Field highlights work ethic and high‑soccer IQ as the team readies for the upcoming season

Eric Zyung has taken the reins of the Civic Memorial boys soccer team, stepping onto the grass of Hauser Field for the first summer training sessions as the new head coach.

Having previously guided the school’s girls program, Zyung brings a familiar yet fresh perspective, emphasizing work ethic, high soccer IQ and a style built around high‑pressure play and possession with purpose.

Summer Camp at Hauser Field

The camp, running through July, welcomes around 30 players now, with expectations of nearly 40 by the start of the regular season. Zyung praises the group’s positive attitude and energy, noting that the core returning players — Reed Wallace, AJ Rench, Jaxson Cook and Brady Strubhart — provide a solid foundation.

Zyung’s vision extends beyond individual skill; he wants the team to execute pressure collectively and to move the ball with intention, aiming to translate summer work into competitive readiness for the upcoming campaign.

The program is affiliated with Civic Memorial School and operates under the umbrella of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), ensuring that the team’s development aligns with state standards and competitive frameworks.
