Michigan Technological University’s hockey program is gearing up for the 2026‑27 campaign, bringing in eight new student‑athletes who will add depth on the blue line, forward depth and between the pipes.
A Fresh Batch of Talent
The incoming group comprises four defensemen, three forwards and a goaltender, a balance that coach Bill Broderick says will complement the returning core. Two of the newcomers have already tasted NCAA action, while two more honed their games in the Canadian university circuit, and the remaining freshmen arrive from the United States Hockey League and the Ontario Hockey League.
Season Opener Against the Gophers
The Huskies open the season on October 2‑3 when they host the Minnesota Gophers, a matchup that traditionally draws a packed house in Houghton. Season ticket packages will become available to fans on July 8, giving supporters the chance to lock in seats for what promises to be an exciting year.
Player Spotlights
Lucas Brenton, a big and strong puck‑moving defenseman from the University of Manitoba, arrives with a reputation for skating with poise and making smart breakout passes. Giovanni Morneau, a high‑skilled centerman who earned the NCAA D‑I Independent Player of the Year award, brings a creative spark to the middle six.
Conner Roulette, a fourth‑round pick of the Dallas Stars, is an elite‑level forward whose offensive instincts have already drawn praise from scouts. Luke Shipley, a smooth‑skating offensive right‑shot defenseman from UMass Lowell, is expected to anchor the power play with his vision and point‑producing ability.
Morgan Brady, a tough‑as‑nails defenseman who logged time in the USHL with Waterloo and Green Bay, adds a physical presence and reliability in his own zone. Joey Costanzo, an athletic and positional goaltender with more than 100 wins in the OHL, will compete for minutes between the pipes, while Tristan Delisle, a smooth‑skating centerman with a high‑end hockey IQ, looks to translate his OHL experience into collegiate success.
Austin Moline, a seventh‑round draft selection of the Philadelphia Flyers, rounds out the defensive corps with his size and ability to move the puck efficiently. Together, these eight athletes represent a blend of Canadian university experience, U.S. junior exposure and NHL draft pedigree, positioning the Huskies to contend in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
