The Los Angeles Kings have named former NHL star Phil Housley as their new Associate Head Coach, rounding out a coaching staff led by veteran Peter Laviolette.
A Legacy of Playing and Coaching
Housley, a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 2015, brings more than a decade of coaching experience after a 1,495‑game playing career that earned him seven NHL All‑Star selections.
Before joining the Kings, he served stints with the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Buffalo Sabres, honing a reputation as a strategic mind on the ice.
Chris Hajt, who spent nine seasons with the Ontario Reign, comes to Los Angeles after helping the team capture the 2015 Calder Cup and consistently guide the club to playoff contention.
Joining him, Ray Whitney arrives with a 22‑year NHL résumé that includes a Stanley Cup championship with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and international play for Team Canada in four IIHF Men’s World Championships.
Whitney’s extensive experience as a player and mentor is expected to provide depth and perspective as the Kings aim to contend for the playoffs.
The moves signal the Kings’ intent to blend fresh ideas with proven expertise, positioning the franchise for a strong push in the upcoming season.
