A Season of Scholarship
Virginia Tech’s baseball squad made history this spring by placing ten players on the 2026 All‑ACC Academic Team, the fourth consecutive season the program has topped double‑digit honorees.
Under head coach John Szefc, the team posted a spring 2026 cumulative GPA of 3.42, a mark that shattered the school’s previous record, and finished the 2025‑26 academic year with a 3.38 GPA, also a new high for the program.

The accomplishment was highlighted by junior pitchers Preston Crowl and Brett Renfrow, who earned spots on the team for the third year in a row, showcasing both athletic prowess and academic consistency.
Eight of the honorees were first‑time selections, including senior pitchers Brody Roe and Brendan Yagesh, who joined a growing list of Hokies who excel in the classroom as well as on the mound.
The broader varsity athletic department also posted record academic performance, with the entire slate of Virginia Tech sports achieving a collective GPA that set a new institutional benchmark, reflecting a campus‑wide commitment to scholarship.
Athletic director Danny Lazaro praised the student‑athletes for their dedication, noting that the recognition reinforces the university’s mission to develop well‑rounded leaders who succeed in both competition and learning.
