James Barnett, a standout offensive lineman at Iowa City West High School, has officially received a scholarship offer from the University of Iowa, a program that his father, George Barnett, currently coaches on the offensive line.
At 6‑foot‑2 and 270 pounds, Barnett brings a rare blend of size and athleticism that has attracted attention from multiple conferences, including the Mid‑American and Summit League programs.
In addition to Iowa, the recruit has also secured offers from Miami University and the University of South Dakota, and he has been in regular contact with several other power‑conference schools exploring his potential.
Beyond football, Barnett is a two‑sport athlete who placed second in the 4A state track and field meet in the shot put, underscoring his competitive drive and versatility.
While still weighing his options, Barnett says he is in no rush to commit, preferring to evaluate how each program aligns with his academic goals and athletic development.
