Evart Wildcats' 2026 baseball campaign
The Evart Wildcats closed out the 2026 high school baseball season with a 21‑12 record, a tally that placed them among the most successful squads in recent memory but fell short of the conference and district titles they had targeted.
At the heart of the team's success was senior pitcher‑hitter Aidan Anderson, who logged 72 innings on the mound, posting a 10‑2 record, a 0.68 ERA and 179 strikeouts, while also batting .500 with 46 hits, 12 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 34 RBIs and 46 runs scored.
Standout performances
His contributions were complemented by strong showings from Aaron VanAssche, Kade Morgan and Easton Ransom, each earning first‑team all‑conference honors, while Cooper Higgins received honorable‑mention recognition for his work on the field.
Coach Josh Johnson praised the effort of his players, saying the team had a great season but expressed disappointment after a 9‑8 loss to Manistee in the district semifinals ended their championship hopes.
One of the season's bright spots came early, when the Wildcats routed Mason County Central 7‑0 in the district opener, a shutout that showcased the team's pitching depth and offensive firepower.
In that game, Seth Katopol drove in two runs from the eighth spot in the lineup, while VanAssche, Anderson and Morgan each collected multiple hits and combined for several stolen bases, underscoring the depth of the roster.
Looking ahead
Though the campaign concluded without the coveted trophies, the experience has set a foundation for future growth, with the returning core of Anderson, VanAssche and Morgan poised to lead the Wildcats back into contention next spring.
