Ryan Looman, a 41-year-old administrator in the Mayfield school district, has been appointed head coach of the Mayfield girls basketball team, taking the reins after a period of transition that saw him serve as an assistant principal in Twinsburg.
A Fresh Start for the Wildcats
Looman previously guided the Wildcats as head coach before stepping into school leadership, and his return marks a renewed focus on basketball after a brief administrative interlude.
The roster will feature several senior players who experienced the previous 10-12 season, though leading scorer Sydney Montgomery has graduated, leaving a void that the returning veterans hope to fill.
Next season the team will compete in the Suburban League, a move that promises tougher competition and a reduced number of guaranteed non-conference nights, presenting both challenges and opportunities for growth.
Looman will be supported on the bench by assistants R.J. Paglio, Ava Ryncarz and Hannah Peterson, a trio he credits alongside the administration for making the new coaching opportunity possible.
He has said that coaching makes him a better person and that he is excited to lead the squad through this transitional year, emphasizing the importance of community support and the school's backing.
