A Season of Resilience
The 2026 Girls Flag Football State Championships concluded with the Gresham Gophers securing sixth place, a finish that belied the challenges they faced early in the season. After opening the postseason with a bye, the team fell to the top‑seeded Amity squad 13‑8 in the Elite Eight, but the loss did not dampen their resolve.
In the consolation bracket, Gresham staged a comeback against Thurston, edging a 20‑14 victory that was punctuated by a pivotal interception from freshman corner Lute Falepapalangi, who snatched the ball in the end zone and shifted momentum.
Senior quarterback Aniyah Daebney‑Lomax then launched a 72‑yard strike to junior receiver Jadelynn Chisley, a play that showcased the chemistry between the two and highlighted the team’s explosive potential.
Coach Adam Meyer praised the senior class for their leadership, noting that the experience gained will serve as a foundation for the program’s future success. The team’s performance provided valuable lessons that will shape the next generation of Gophers.
