A Freshman Sensation
Lance Davis, a right-handed pitcher for TCU, has been named to the D1 Baseball second-team Freshman All-American list, a testament to his immediate impact in his debut season.
The Horned Frogs relied on Davis to shoulder a heavy workload, as he logged a team-high 80 innings across 14 starts. His performance included eight quality starts and two complete games, underscoring his durability and command.
Davis finished the year with a 5-3 record and a 3.71 earned-run average, striking out 51 batters while limiting opponents to a .236 batting average. Those numbers placed him second on the squad in strikeouts and helped anchor the pitching staff.
The recognition did not stop at the national list; Davis earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was selected as Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week twice. His first weekly award came on March 23 after a seven-inning shutout against UCF, and a second honor followed on May 18 when he delivered a complete-game shutout at No. 9 West Virginia.
Coach Kirk Saarloos, now in his tenth season at TCU, has overseen the development of 23 Freshman All-American athletes since arriving in 2013, a track record that reflects his ability to nurture talent from the outset.
Looking Ahead
With a strong foundation built by Davis and a coaching staff that consistently produces top talent, the Horned Frogs look poised to remain competitive in the Big 12 and beyond. Fans can expect a pitching rotation that blends experience with the fresh arm of Davis, who figures to be a cornerstone for the program’s next chapter.
