Flyers Extend Tyson Foerster with Eight-Year, $7.1M Annual Deal

General Manager Daniel Briere hails the forward’s growth as he prepares for a new era with Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday that forward Tyson Foerster has agreed to an eight‑year contract extension that will pay $7.1 million each season, with the deal kicking in for the 2027‑28 campaign. The agreement locks the forward into the roster through the latter part of the decade, providing the club with a stable, high‑caliber option at the forward position.

General Manager Daniel Briere, speaking at the team’s training facility, said the extension reflects the organization’s confidence in Foerster’s trajectory and his growing importance to the club’s long‑term vision. "Tyson has shown remarkable development since his debut, and we see him as a cornerstone for the next generation of Flyers," Briere remarked.

Foerster, who turned 24 earlier this year, has logged 195 NHL appearances for Philadelphia, compiling 61 goals and 100 points. His breakout 2024‑25 season saw him reach career highs of 25 goals, 18 assists and 43 points in 81 games, while also contributing a goal in the Flyers’ recent playoff run.

Beyond the NHL, the forward has tasted international success, capturing a gold medal with Canada at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and representing the nation at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, where he posted two goals and an assist in seven games.

Selected 23rd overall in the 2020 draft, Foerster climbed the ranks through the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts, where he once led the league in power‑play goals, before stints with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL and a debut against Carolina in March 2023.

Looking Ahead

The contract not only secures a key piece of the Flyers’ forward depth but also signals a commitment to developing home‑grown talent as the team looks to rebuild around a core that includes players like Briere, who himself has been instrumental in shaping the franchise’s player development strategy.
