Jake Deer has stepped down from his role as head coach of the men’s basketball program at Columbia College, ending a two‑year stint that reshaped the program from the ground up.
Hired in 2024 as the school’s inaugural men’s basketball coach, Deer guided the team to a .500 record in his debut season, posting 14 victories and laying a foundation for future growth.
Milestones on the Court
During the 2025‑26 campaign the team surged to 13 wins, earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament and rattled off a six‑game winning streak that highlighted the squad’s resilience.
The impact of Deer’s leadership was underscored when three players garnered all‑conference honors and several others were repeatedly recognized as AAC Conference Players of the Week.
Leadership and Gratitude
In a statement released to the campus community, Deer expressed thanks to Athletic Director Glen Crawford, President Dr. Dozier and the entire coaching staff for the opportunity to build something special.
Crawford, in turn, praised Deer’s dedication, noting that his “vision and work ethic have left an indelible mark on Columbia College athletics.”
