Marquette University has announced the verbal commitment of 6‑4 point guard Colton Crowdis, a native of Toronto, Canada, who played his high school ball at Bridgton (ME) Academy.
Crowdis, celebrated for his deep‑range three‑point shooting and elite passing vision, chose the Big East program over St. John’s and Providence, narrowing his finalists to those three schools.
His pledge arrives as the Golden Eagles navigate a wave of roster turnover, having lost key contributors such as junior point guard Sean Jones, junior guard Zaide Lowery, junior guard Tre Norman and 6‑11 forward Sheek Pearson.
Coach Todd Kowalczek and the staff have been aggressive in the transfer portal, adding big men Sananda Fru from Louisville, swingman Nolan Minessale from St. Thomas (MN), combo guard Ethan Johnston from New York and forward Alex Egbuonu from Groton, Massachusetts.
With Crowdis set to fill the backup point guard slot and stretch the floor at the 2‑guard position, the team now carries 13 scholarship players and still holds two open scholarships that could be used for additional depth.
A Calculated Gamble in the Transfer Era
The move reflects a broader trend across college basketball where programs lean on experienced transfers to plug holes left by departing stars.
Fans will watch closely to see how Crowdis integrates into a backcourt that already features returning guard Tyler Kolek, whose own playmaking has been a cornerstone of the offense.
If the early chemistry translates into on‑court production, Marquette could re‑emerge as a contender in the Big East race.
