A Deal That Adds Depth and Experience
The Anaheim Ducks announced this week that they have locked in veteran defenseman Nick Jensen to a two‑year agreement that will keep him under contract through the 2027‑28 NHL season. The move reflects the club’s intent to blend youthful energy with a player who has consistently proven his ability to contribute at both ends of the ice.
At 36, Jensen brings a wealth of experience that stretches across three NHL franchises — Detroit, Washington and Ottawa — where he has logged 694 career games. His durability is matched by a solid offensive output, having topped the 150‑point mark in his career while maintaining a career plus‑minus rating of +33.
In the most recent 2024‑25 campaign, Jensen posted 17 points while averaging 17:01 minutes of ice time per game in 61 contests with the Ottawa Senators. He also contributed 22 penalty minutes, underscoring his willingness to protect teammates and stand up for his teammates in a physical Eastern Conference environment.
Jensen’s best statistical season came in 2022‑23, when he set personal highs with 29 points, a career‑best +32 rating and a balanced mix of goals and assists. That performance helped the Ducks secure a crucial win in a tightly contested division race, and his playoff pedigree — 33 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances — adds a reliable presence when the stakes rise.
Beyond the NHL, Jensen’s formative years were marked by success at St. Cloud State University, where he earned a spot on the 2012‑13 First All‑American Team and was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. Internationally, he represented the United States at the 2018 World Championship, contributing to a bronze‑medal finish, and earlier captured a USHL Clark Cup with the Green Bay Gamblers.
