A grand jury in Dutchess County has issued indictments against four local residents for the murder of Carl Chambers, who was killed during a pickup soccer game at Stitzel Field in Poughkeepsie on April 19. The case, which has drawn widespread attention, centers on a coordinated assault that combined stabbing and gunfire.
According to the prosecution, Peter Green first attacked Chambers with a knife, inflicting a fatal wound, while Sharnado Green opened fire with an AR‑style rifle, striking the victim multiple times. The assault unfolded in front of numerous bystanders who were participating in the informal adult league.
Later in the incident, Tyrese Hall discharged a handgun, adding further shots to the already wounded Chambers. Investigators say the sequence of attacks demonstrates a deliberate and coordinated effort to kill, rather than an isolated act of violence.
The investigation, led by the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, describes the assault as a brazen act of violence that endangered dozens of people in a public recreation space. Prosecutors have emphasized the broader impact on community safety, noting that the presence of families and other spectators made the attack especially reckless.
Legal Proceedings and Bail
Peter Green, Sharnado Green and Tyrese Hall have been ordered held without bail, while Paul Green’s bail was set at $1 million cash, $3 million bond and a $7.5 million partially secured bond. All four defendants are scheduled to return to court on October 16 for further proceedings, where additional evidence and witness testimony will be presented.
The case has sparked renewed discussion about public safety in local parks, with community leaders urging increased monitoring of recreational spaces to prevent similar tragedies. Advocates also call for expanded resources for conflict resolution programs aimed at youth and adult sports leagues.
