The Anaheim Ducks announced this week that they have reached a three‑year agreement with forward Jeff Malott, locking the 29‑year‑old in through the 2028‑29 NHL season. The deal secures the veteran’s services at a time when the club is looking to bolster its forward depth and add a physical presence to the lineup.
Malott arrives after a season in which he logged a career‑best 166 hits, ranking second in the league among forwards, and posted a 23.37‑mile‑per‑hour top speed that placed him in the 97th percentile of postseason skaters. In 71 NHL appearances split between Los Angeles and Winnipeg, he has compiled 10 points and 64 penalty minutes, numbers that reflect his role as a reliable depth forward.
Beyond the NHL, Malott has been a mainstay in the American Hockey League, where he has amassed 208 points, a +34 rating and 318 penalty minutes across 298 games. He reached a personal high of 52 points and 23 goals in a single AHL campaign, and his +34 rating remains one of the best among his peers.
Malott’s collegiate pedigree adds another layer to his profile. He spent four seasons at Cornell University, contributing 53 points in 114 games and serving as team captain in his senior year. During that time the Big Red captured regular‑season conference titles in 2018 and 2020, underscoring his leadership on and off the ice.
The signing comes as the Ducks continue to reshape their roster ahead of the upcoming campaign, with general manager Jeff Gordon emphasizing that Malott’s blend of grit, speed and experience aligns perfectly with the team’s evolving identity.
