The Pittsburgh Penguins announced this week that they have reached an agreement with forward Atley Calvert, securing the 22-year-old on a two-year entry-level contract.
Calvert wrapped up his second season within the organization, having spent the majority of the campaign with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, where he posted 38 points in 70 games.
His contributions extended to the postseason, where he added six points in 15 playoff appearances, helping the affiliate chase a deep run.
A Strategic Fit for the Club
The move reflects a calculated step to reinforce depth at forward, with General Manager Kyle Dubas highlighting Calvert’s versatility and work ethic as qualities that align with the team’s long-term vision.
The contract underscores the organization’s confidence in the player’s development trajectory and its commitment to nurturing talent from within the system.
Prior to his professional debut, Calvert distinguished himself in the Western Hockey League, completing four seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors, a stretch that culminated in a championship and a spot on the WHL East Second All-Star Team.
In the 2024-25 campaign he split time between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton club and the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, registering 36 points in 38 games for Wheeling and 14 points in 26 outings for the Penguins’ AHL affiliate.
Across his WHL career he amassed 220 points, showcasing a blend of offensive skill and playmaking that has generated optimism about his NHL potential.
