A Strategic Addition for Brooklyn
The New York Islanders announced on Tuesday that they have signed forward Mitchell Chaffee to a one-year contract, a move designed to add depth and versatility to their forward lines.
Chaffee, 28, arrives after a season in which he contributed one assist in 11 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and spent the bulk of the campaign with the Syracuse Crunch, where he posted 57 points in 54 appearances.
Across four NHL seasons split between the Lightning and the Minnesota Wild, the Michigan native has accumulated 26 points in 109 career games, while his 146 AHL points in 177 games reflect a consistent offensive touch in the minors.
Prior to turning professional, Chaffee starred at the University of Massachusetts, recording 95 points in 109 games and honing the playmaking skills that have defined his career.
The Islanders hope the veteran’s experience and familiarity with winning environments will translate into a spark for a team looking to rebound after a challenging stretch.
General manager Lou Lamoriello praised the signing, noting that Chaffee’s work ethic and adaptability make him a valuable piece as the club navigates a competitive Atlantic Division.
With the contract in place, the organization looks forward to integrating Chaffee into their lineup and monitoring his impact during training camp and the preseason.
