A Double Coaching Shuffle in Virginia's Basketball Heartland
Jefferson Forest High School announced this week that Bryce Woodliff will take the reins of its boys basketball team, ushering in a new era for the program. Woodliff, a Roanoke native, brings a playing résumé that includes stints under former West Virginia governor and coach Jim Justice, as well as college stops at Georgia Southern and Roanoke College.
Beyond his playing days, Woodliff has carved out a coaching path that includes a tenure at Patrick Henry High School, where he honed a system built around what he calls 'B‑P‑3' — a shorthand for passion, persistence, and purpose. The mantra now guides the Jaguars as they look to rebuild.
Across the region, Rockbridge County has tapped Tyler Falls to lead its girls basketball squad. Falls arrives after years of service as an assistant in both the boys and girls programs at Rockbridge County, giving him an intimate understanding of the school's culture and expectations.
The appointments underscore a broader trend of local talent staying home to shape the next generation of high school basketball. With deep roots in the area and ties to institutions such as Jefferson Forest, North Cross, Greenbrier East, Georgia Southern, Roanoke College, Patrick Henry and Rockbridge County High School, the new coaches are poised to blend tradition with fresh ideas.
