A New Chapter for Adult Baseball in the Inland Northwest
The Sandpoint Tigers have entered the summer scene as a fresh 60‑plus men’s baseball squad, marking the latest addition to the region’s growing adult‑league ecosystem.
Their inaugural game is slated for Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m., when they will host the Spokane Dodgers at War Memorial Field in Sandpoint. Admission is free, inviting families, friends and baseball enthusiasts to witness the first pitch.
The matchup will also feature a showdown with the Spokane Yankees later in the day, underscoring the competitive spirit of the Inland Northwest Men’s Adult and Men’s Senior Baseball leagues.
Those leagues, which belong to a national network boasting over 40,000 participants, trace their roots back to 1996, when the Inland Northwest Chapter first organized play in the 18‑plus and 35‑plus divisions. A 45‑plus division was later introduced to accommodate a broader age range.
Toby Frye, the Tigers’ manager, emphasized that the team gives seasoned players a chance to stay competitive while sharing their love of the game with newer residents of the area.
Beyond the opening contest, the league offers a calendar of games that highlight local talent and welcome newcomers eager to join the fray. Prospective players can learn more at playhardball.org, where details about joining a team or supporting the sport are readily available.
With the summer heat rising, the Sandpoint Tigers’ debut promises not only a display of skill but also a community gathering that celebrates the enduring appeal of baseball across generations.
