The Colorado Avalanche made a flurry of moves on July 1, announcing the addition of several players to its roster as the team looks to bounce back from a disappointing previous season.
Among the newcomers is defenseman Domenick Fensore, a left‑shot puck‑moving blueliner who spent the last two campaigns with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
Fensore arrives after a breakout year in which he recorded 35 points in 60 AHL games and helped the Wolves reach the Calder Cup Final, a run that included a seven‑game battle against the Colorado Eagles in the Western Conference.
The 2019 third‑round draft pick has also logged limited NHL time, appearing in a single game last season and two contests during the 2024‑25 campaign, but coaches expect his mobility and offensive instincts to add depth to the Avalanche blue line.
A fresh face on the blue line
The club used the signing to replace departing defenseman Jack Ahcan, who opted to sign with the Nashville Predators after his contract expired.
Ahcan’s new deal with Nashville carries an average annual value of $875,000 and reunites him with former Colorado general manager Chris MacFarland, now in a senior front‑office role with the Predators.
The Avalanche also saw a handful of AHL regulars sign elsewhere, including forward Alex Barre‑Boulet and winger Tyle Felhaber, who both joined the San Jose Sharks, while forward Jason Polin is headed to the Buffalo Sabres.
General manager Chris MacFarland said the moves reflect a strategy of blending proven AHL talent with NHL‑ready prospects as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
Fans can expect to see Fensore given ample opportunity to prove himself in the NHL lineup, while the organization continues to monitor the progress of other prospects in the system.
