Tyler Rice Ascends to Assistant Coach Role at UT Arlington

From player to coach, his journey reflects versatility, academic dedication, and a deep-rooted baseball heritage.

Tyler Rice, a former standout for the UT Arlington Mavericks, has been named assistant coach, continuing a trajectory that began when he first joined the program in 2019.

A Journey Defined by Versatility

During his collegiate career he appeared in 150 games, showcasing a rare blend of agility and intelligence across the infield. He amassed 90 hits, drove in 39 runs, and scored 60 times, while maintaining a .282 batting average and a .400 on‑base percentage in his senior season of 2023.

Off the field, Rice earned Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades in 2020 and 2022, reflecting his commitment to scholarship as well as sport.

Family Legacy and Brotherly Firsts

The promotion also marks a personal milestone for the Rice family; his father, Bryan Rice, brings more than 25 years of coaching experience, while his brother Tanner made history alongside Tyler as the first siblings to start a game for the Mavericks in 2022.

Since stepping onto the coaching staff, Rice has worn multiple hats — volunteer assistant, Director of Player Development, and graduate assistant — gaining a comprehensive view of program operations before assuming his new assistant coach responsibilities.

As he balances a Master’s degree with his coaching duties, Rice is poised to influence the next generation of Mavericks, blending his playing experience, academic insight, and familial passion for the game.
