The Road Ahead
Joshua Tyson, a 6‑foot‑5 guard from Lakota West in Ohio, has quickly become one of the most talked‑about names in the 2027 recruiting class. Ranked No. 60 overall nationally and No. 5 in the state, his blend of scoring and playmaking has drawn the attention of college programs across the country.
During his junior year he posted averages of 16.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game, earning first‑team All‑Ohio honors in Division I and a spot as a finalist for the state’s Mr. Basketball award. Those performances have cemented his reputation as a versatile backcourt player.
Coach Jake Diebler at Ohio State has labeled Tyson a top priority for the 2027 class, and the Buckeyes will host the prospect on an official visit this weekend. The trip joins a schedule that also includes stops at Xavier, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati, while other programs such as Michigan State, Clemson, Penn State, Butler, Dayton, Arizona State and West Virginia have already extended offers.
Tyson’s AAU pedigree adds another layer of intrigue. He previously suited up for the Phenom United 17‑U team on the adidas circuit, helping the club to a 5‑3 record in the spring circuit, and he was selected for the USA Basketball U18 training camp, a testament to his rising stock.
Born in Virginia, raised in Arkansas and transplanted to Cincinnati at age seven, Tyson now calls the Ohio River city home. His journey reflects the modern recruiting landscape, where a single player can simultaneously court multiple power‑conference programs while still polishing his game on the summer circuit.
