Kam Chancellor Takes the Reins at Mount Healthy High School

The former NBA defensive stalwart transitions to head coach, aiming to reshape the Fighting Owls program.

A Defensive Legend Turns Coach

Mount Healthy High School announced the hiring of Kam Chancellor as its new head boys basketball coach, marking the first head‑coaching role of his career. The move comes as the program seeks to rebound from a challenging 8‑13 season and prepare for entry into the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference in the 2027‑28 school year.

Chancellor arrives with a résumé that blends professional NBA experience with a decade‑plus coaching portfolio. He has guided AAU powerhouses such as Club Ohio, Cincy Fire and Mid‑Ohio Pumas, and served as an assistant or head mentor at Clark Montessori, Summit Country Day and St. Xavier High School.

Beyond the clipboard, Chancellor is a family man, married to Louisa Chancellor and the father of sons Krue and Josiah. In a recent interview he expressed enthusiasm about joining the Mount Healthy community, noting the school’s rich tradition and the opportunity to mentor young athletes both on and off the court.

He replaces Sean Cook II, who steered the team through its recent independent schedule after the Southwest Ohio Conference dissolved. Cook’s tenure ended with an 8‑13 record, but the Owls now look to a new era under Chancellor’s defensive philosophy and community‑focused approach.

The upcoming season will be a test of implementation, as the team integrates new schemes while adjusting to a fresh conference landscape. Chancellor’s vision emphasizes player development, disciplined defense and active engagement with local fans, aiming to restore the Fighting Owls to competitive prominence.
