A renewed rivalry
Pike County’s athletic programs are gearing up for a fresh start this fall as they transition into Region 2AAA. The shift brings the Pirates back into competition with longtime rivals such as Lamar County, rekindling the storied Battle of Potato Creek that has defined many of their recent matchups.
The regular season kicks off on August 21 with an away game at Taylor County, setting the tone for a schedule that blends home‑field advantages with challenging road trips across the region.
A highlight of the early slate arrives on September 11 when ACE visits for a military appreciation night, honoring service members while the Pirates look to establish early momentum on their home turf.
Later in September, the team travels to Callaway on the 24th before returning home for homecoming on October 2 against Central Macon, an event that traditionally draws a large crowd of alumni and community supporters.
October brings a series of marquee contests: a home game against Lamar County on the 23rd for breast cancer awareness night, followed by a road test at Northeast Macon on October 30 and a senior night showdown with Southwest Macon on November 6.
The excitement doesn’t end with the regular season; the first round of the state playoffs is slated for November 13, promising another chance for the Pirates to extend their campaign and chase a deeper run.
