The 2026 football season at Vidalia High School is shaping up to be a pivotal one, as the Vikings transition from Class 3A to Class 2A and welcome a seasoned new leader.
A New Era for the Vikings
Michael Burget, who was hired in March 2024 following the departure of Josh West, brings more than three decades of coaching experience, most recently from Weslaco East High School in Texas, where he helped guide the team to multiple playoff appearances.
Schedule Highlights
The Vikings will begin the year on the road, opening with matches against St. Mary's Catholic School and Delta Charter School before hosting their first home game against General Trass High School on September 18. District play kicks off on October 9 against Mangham High School, followed by back‑to‑back road trips to Rayville and Delhi Charter School, and a homecoming clash with D'Arbonne Woods Charter School on October 2. The regular season culminates with a November 6 showdown against Ferriday High School, a familiar district rival.
