Roster Overhaul
The Utah Mammoth have executed a series of high‑profile moves that signal a clear intent to blend seasoned NHL experience with promising young talent. General manager Bill Armstrong orchestrated a trade that sent defenseman Sean Durzi and the franchise’s 2024 first‑round pick Cole Beaudoin to the New York Rangers in exchange for veteran center Vincent Trocheck.
Trocheck, a 13‑year NHL veteran, brings an Olympic gold medal and two All‑Star selections to Utah. He has logged over 860 career games and posted 50 points in each of the past five seasons, and he is now under a three‑year contract with the club.
Alongside Trocheck, the team announced a three‑year agreement with Anders Lee, the longtime New York Islanders captain known for his leadership and durability. Lee has appeared in more than 1,000 NHL games, including a career‑best 40‑goal season in 2017‑18, and his presence is expected to bolster the locker room culture.
The Mammoth also re‑signed forward Kevin Stenlund to a one‑year deal. At 29, Stenlund posted four goals and 14 assists last season and contributed a playoff goal against Vegas. Two years ago he ranked fourth league‑wide in faceoff wins at 59.1%, underscoring his value in critical moments.
Defenseman Zac Jones received a two‑year, two‑way contract after being named an AHL All‑Star with the Rochester Americans, where he tallied 10 goals and 52 assists. A 2019 third‑round draft pick of the Rangers, Jones adds depth and offensive upside to the blue line.
The moves come as the club parts ways with Durzi, 27, who contributed five goals and 22 assists in 60 games last season, and Beaudoin, the 20‑year‑old OHL standout who posted 33 goals and 55 assists in 54 games. Both players are expected to find new opportunities elsewhere.
