The Minnesota Wild have secured a significant addition to their roster by signing forward Maxim Shabanov to a one-year, $1.6 million contract, a move that reflects the team's strategic focus on enhancing offensive depth and versatility.
From KHL Dominance to NHL Promise
Shabanov, a 25-year-old Russian winger, arrives in Minnesota after a four-season stint with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, where he emerged as one of the league's most consistent scorers, netting 67 goals and 150 points in 207 games.
His 2024-25 KHL campaign was particularly stellar, as he ranked third in league scoring with 67 points across 65 games, earned a place on the All-Star Team, and capped the season by leading the playoffs with 20 points, including 10 goals in 21 games.
Shabanov's NHL debut proved equally promising, as he contributed five goals and 18 points in 44 games during the 2025-26 season, showcasing his ability to create scoring chances and support top-line players.
The Wild view him as a top-nine forward, appreciating his quickness, playmaking instincts, and capacity to operate on both wings as a left-handed shot, all of which align with their offensive strategy.
His integration into the team will be seamless, given the existing chemistry with Russian teammates Kirill Kaprizov, Yakov Trenin, and Danila Yurov, who have already established a strong foundation in Minnesota.
This signing not only bolsters the Wild's forward lines but also reinforces their commitment to building a competitive, internationally diverse squad capable of contending in the playoffs.
