During a recent NASCAR practice session at Dover International Speedway, a sudden mishap unfolded when a pit cart careened off the designated lane, threatening the safety of those working the perimeter.
The Heroic Shield
Donovan Williams, the tire carrier assigned to Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 entry, instinctively stepped into the path of the errant cart, using his body to deflect the moving piece of equipment and protect FOX Sports presenter Amanda Busick, who was reporting from the pit wall.
The impact left Williams with minor but noticeable injuries; he was quickly transported to a nearby medical facility where he received treatment before being discharged later that day.
Despite the release, series officials confirmed that Williams will be unable to take part in the upcoming NASCAR All‑Star Race and the associated Pit Crew Challenge, events that carry a $1 million purse and a 350‑lap spectacle.
Safety in the Pit Lane
To fill the vacancy, Andrew Egnarski, a seasoned crew member, has been elevated to the role of Suarez’s tire carrier for the remainder of the weekend’s activities.
Practice times also delivered high‑octane excitement, with Kyle Larson posting the fastest lap at 157.950 mph, while Michael McDowell and Denny Hamlin followed closely, setting the stage for a competitive showdown.
Other notable participants in the session included Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, and a host of additional drivers, all of whom contributed to a vibrant atmosphere as teams fine‑tuned their setups ahead of the star‑studded event.
