Sam Kerr, the Australian forward who has become a household name in women's soccer, is set to re‑join Gotham FC in the National Women's Soccer League, bringing with her a résumé that includes five titles earned in England's Women's Super League.
Having spent the last six and a half years with Chelsea, where she helped the club capture eleven major trophies, Kerr returns to the club that first launched her NWSL career between 2015 and 2017, when the franchise was known as Sky Blue FC.
The 32‑year‑old cited both competitive ambition and personal ties as the driving forces behind her decision, noting that her partner, midfielder Kristie Mewis, has deep roots in the United States and that a stable contract through 2030 offers the prospect of long‑term settlement.
Kerr also praised the NWSL for its even playing field and the physical intensity that distinguishes it from other leagues, emphasizing that the league’s demanding style aligns with her own competitive philosophy.
Her return is being framed as a strategic move that could bolster Gotham FC’s on‑field performance while reinforcing the team’s connection to its fan base in New York and beyond.
