As the Louisiana summer heat climbs into the high nineties, the Eunice High School football team has moved its conditioning sessions to the coolest part of the day. Early‑morning workouts, often beginning before sunrise, allow athletes to build endurance while minimizing exposure to peak temperatures.

Coaching staff have instituted a strict hydration regimen that requires players to consume water and electrolyte‑rich sports drinks at regular intervals. In addition, the field is equipped with portable fans and shaded rest zones, providing immediate relief when athletes need a break.

Senior linebacker Tyler Coward, who has been a vocal advocate for the new protocols, says the routine has become second nature. “We start every session with a water break, and we’re encouraged to speak up if we feel any signs of overheating,” he explained.
