A former Franklin soccer coach, Camilo Campos-Hurtado, was sentenced in federal court to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to child sexual exploitation and related immigration offenses.
Investigation Uncovers Abuse Material
The case began in June 2023 when law enforcement officials discovered explicit videos on Campos-Hurtado’s cellphone. A subsequent search of electronic devices revealed child sexual abuse material alongside counterfeit immigration documents, prompting a broader inquiry into his conduct.
According to investigators, the coach allegedly incapacitated young victims with drugs or alcohol before subjecting them to sexual abuse. The abuse was documented on multiple devices, providing prosecutors with extensive evidence of the crimes.
Charges and Federal Proceedings
Campos-Hurtado faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of life imprisonment. In addition to the federal case, he was indicted by a Williamson County grand jury on 17 rape charges and numerous other sex offenses.
U.S. Attorney Braden H. Boucek emphasized the gravity of the offenses, stating that the Department of Justice prioritizes protecting children from sexual exploitation. The coordinated effort involved Homeland Security Investigations, the Franklin Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Future Transfer to Mexico
Following completion of his federal term, Campos-Hurtado will be transferred to Mexico to serve any remaining state sentence and to address immigration violations, ensuring that the legal consequences extend beyond U.S. borders.
