Providence College has named Christian Pino its new recruiting coordinator, tapping a proven talent developer who spent the last five years shaping Alabama’s rise in the SEC.
A Shared Journey at Buffalo and Alabama
Coach Bryan Hodgson and Pino first crossed paths at the University of Buffalo, where Hodgson served as an assistant and Pino emerged as a standout player. Their collaboration continued at Alabama, where Hodgson was an assistant under Nate Oats and Pino ascended to director of player development and recruiting coordinator.
During his tenure at Alabama, Pino helped the Crimson Tide capture two SEC Regular Season titles and two SEC Tournament championships, while the team achieved top‑10 defensive rankings in two seasons. He oversaw skill development, practice design, game charting, and the maintenance of a comprehensive recruiting database.
Pino’s influence extended to the NBA, where he contributed to the growth of prospects such as Herb Jones, Josh Primo, Alex Reese, Jaden Shackelford and others. His scouting work and player development were credited with elevating Alabama’s offensive scheme, which ranked second nationally in 2024 as the team reached the Final Four.
What This Means for Providence
The Friars hope Pino’s SEC‑tested eye for talent will accelerate recruiting pipelines and reinforce a culture of development. Hodgson emphasized that Pino’s familiarity with his coaching philosophy and proven track record make him the ideal fit to elevate the program’s competitive edge.
Fans can expect a seamless integration of Pino’s analytical approach and hands‑on player work, as the staff aims to build on recent successes and target future NBA prospects. The hiring underscores Providence’s commitment to blending experience with fresh perspectives as it looks ahead to the next season.
