Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke has named Berlyn Seitz as the new head coach of its girls basketball program, tapping a veteran with more than seven years of coaching across multiple levels.
Seitz’s playing days at Bridgewater College, where she starred under longtime coach Jean Willi, gave her a deep appreciation for the student‑athlete experience.
Patti Atkinson, the Roanoke City Public Schools director of athletics, praised Seitz’s blend of tactical acumen and commitment to character development, saying the hire marks a pivotal moment for the program.
At the core of Seitz’s approach is a focus on relationships, insisting that wins are secondary to the growth of each player both on the hardwood and in the classroom.
A Culture of Growth
Seitz believes that a supportive environment fuels competitive fire, and she intends to embed mentorship into daily practice sessions.
By prioritizing communication with parents and local partners, she hopes to build a sustainable pipeline that keeps the program thriving year after year.
The team is poised to enter a new chapter defined by steady progress, player development and a shared commitment to excellence.
