Tom and Joan Tibbitts of Fort Dodge have spent decades cheering on their nine grandchildren, journeying across the state to watch everything from Little League games to high school tournaments.
A Dual Role on the Diamond
At the heart of their pride is Thomas Hartley, the eldest grandson, who now serves as the head sophomore coach for the Iowa City West baseball team, a role he began shaping years ago when his younger brother Eric was still in fourth grade.
Eric Goodman, the youngest grandson, is currently batting above .400 and leads his team in doubles, showcasing the same competitive spirit that runs through the family.
Family Roots and Community Ties
The Tibbitts family’s roots stretch back to Fort Dodge, where multiple generations have been involved in sports and education, a legacy that includes Tracy Hartley, who has taught business at Fort Dodge Senior High for more than three decades.
Beyond the field, Tom and Joan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and both turned 80 in 2025, milestones that underscore a lifetime of community service and family devotion.
