A Record-Breaking Victory
Kapolei surged to a 77-19 triumph over Maryknoll in the Hawaii Dental Service/HHSAA Division II Girls Flag Football State Championships, ending the Spartans' six-game winning streak. The Hurricanes led 38-7 at halftime and never looked back, converting 10 of 12 red-zone opportunities and going 5-of-6 on third downs.
Amisone's Masterful Passing
Quarterback Taimane Amisone was the catalyst, throwing for 464 yards and eight touchdowns on 37-of-44 passing with no interceptions.
Her connection with receivers Bayle Brooks and Kaylyce Kauwe was especially potent; Brooks recorded 13 catches for 217 yards and three scores while Kauwe added 11 receptions for 139 yards and three touchdowns.
Receivers Shine
The offense also saw contributions from Ziah-Lei Mullen-Cummings and Kaylyn Rae Pascual, each hauling in a touchdown pass, while Kaena Kamohalii opened the scoring with a 1-yard run.
Additional scores came from Infinitiz Galeano-Soares and Amisone herself on the ground, and Brooklyn Bell’s interception set up a 34-yard touchdown run for Galeano-Soares.
Maryknoll's Rough Night
Defensively, Aydrianah Kam helped sack Maryknoll quarterback Puaena Herrington four times, and Zoe Silva finished with 11 catches for 230 yards and three touchdowns.
Herrington, despite a 21-of-40 effort for 285 yards, was limited to just one conversion on third down and went 0-for-4 on fourth downs, underscoring Maryknoll’s offensive struggles.
Season-Long Impact
Amisone capped the season with 4,681 passing yards, a 75.8 percent completion rate, 1,012 rushing yards and a stake in 88 total touchdowns, while also being intercepted nine times.
Her all-around production placed her atop the state leaderboards in both passing and rushing yards, with Brooks and Kauwe finishing second and third in receiving yards respectively.
