Forest Grove High School has named Amy Denson as its new girls varsity basketball head coach, a move that promises to reshape the program’s direction heading into the upcoming season.
A Fresh Coaching Vision
Denson arrives with an extensive résumé that includes two state championships at Crater High School, a collegiate career at Arizona State University that reached the Sweet Sixteen, and professional stints in five countries before she retired in 2013.
After coaching at Crater High School and Portland State University, she relocated to Forest Grove in 2019, expressing a long‑standing desire to lead the Vikings. She succeeds Aaron Bronikowski, who departed mid‑season last year for personal reasons, with assistant Doug Lamb guiding the team to an 11‑14 record and a playoff berth in the interim.
The squad will feature returning standouts such as senior guard Rylie Betteridge and junior guard Brooklyn Lamb, while the departure of first‑team all‑league forward Cali Davis leaves a void that Denson hopes to fill through a blend of experienced players and eager newcomers.
Denson emphasizes hard work, mutual support and enjoyment, aiming to cultivate a competitive yet supportive environment where each practice translates into measurable improvement.
Building a Competitive Culture
Her philosophy centers on simplicity — focusing on daily progress, fostering chemistry on and off the court, and ensuring that every class leaves the program stronger than it arrived, a vision she believes will elevate the Vikings’ legacy.
