A Transfer That Could Strengthen the Badgers' Defense
Carson Van Dinter, a native of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, has joined the University of Wisconsin football program after spending his previous college years at Iowa State. The move brings a local product back to the state and adds depth to the Badgers' defensive roster.
During his lone season at Iowa State he recorded 180 defensive snaps, tallying 18 tackles and a single pass deflection. While the statistical line may appear modest, his speed and instincts stand out as notable strengths that caught the eye of the coaching staff.
Badgers head coach Luke Fickell highlighted the value of adding a player who can provide quality depth, noting that Van Dinter's skill set aligns well with Wisconsin's defensive philosophy and his ability to contribute on special teams.
Defensive coordinator Mike Tressel praised the safety's physicality, describing his hitting ability as a rare asset that can make an impact even from a backup role. Tressel emphasized that the player's film shows impressive closing speed and tackling.
With the secondary looking to bolster its depth, Van Dinter is expected to compete for a backup spot behind the team's established starters. He will join other experienced players such as Avery Johnson and Jace Brown in the mix for rotational duties.
Although he may not start immediately, the coaching staff sees long‑term upside in his development. They project him as a player who could grow into a more prominent role as he refines his technique and gains more experience within the program.
