Prokhor Poltapov, a second‑round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft, is slated to join the Buffalo Sabres once his current KHL contract expires in 2027. The Russian forward has been a mainstay for CSKA Moscow, where he has logged 43 goals and 103 points over 266 appearances.
Versatility Valued in Buffalo
Tim Kennedy, the Sabres’ director of player development, has highlighted Poltapov’s adaptability, describing the player as “versatile and skilled” and noting his ability to contribute in multiple roles within the lineup.
Over the past four seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League, Poltapov has demonstrated consistent offensive production, averaging roughly 0.4 points per game and contributing a healthy mix of scoring and playmaking.
His contract with CSKA Moscow is set to run through the 2026‑27 season, and as of now he has not signed a formal agreement with the Sabres. Nevertheless, the organization remains actively engaged with the player.
Communication between Poltapov and the Sabres is being facilitated through the team’s Russian scout, Ruslan Pechonkin, and the European development coach, Jarko Ruutu, ensuring a steady flow of information as the transition progresses.
