Davion Jones, a four-star safety, announced his commitment to South Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class, electing the Gamecocks over LSU, Georgia, Auburn and Indiana.
The decision was revealed during a ceremony at Hough High School in Charlotte, where Jones stood before coaches, teammates and a small crowd of family members before signing his letter of intent.
Ranked as the No. 9 safety nationally and the sixth overall prospect in North Carolina, Jones brings a blend of size, speed and playmaking ability that has drawn the attention of top recruiters across the country.
During his final two seasons at Hough, he amassed 118 tackles, recorded 19 pass breakups and intercepted 11 passes, while also competing in the 100-meter dash for the school’s track and field team.
“He’s a playmaking safety,” said 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins, emphasizing Jones’s knack for altering the momentum of a game with his instincts and ball skills.
A Recruiting Surge in Columbia
South Carolina’s 2027 class has nearly doubled in size since June, now featuring commitments from five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson and four-star cornerback Kelvin Millington, among others.
The ripple effect is evident as LSU secured a blue-chip safety among its own commitments, while Indiana and Auburn each added a pair of safety pledges, and Georgia continues to pursue Adryan Cole, the No. 4 safety in the Rivals 300.
