A Fresh Twist on a Beloved Tradition
The NASCAR All‑Star Race is set to return to Dover Motor Speedway this weekend, bringing with it a revamped competition format that blends tradition with spectacle. Two 75‑lap segments will precede a 200‑lap finale, creating a 350‑lap marathon that tests both endurance and strategy.
The new structure inverts the running order of the top 26 drivers after the first stage, giving them a fresh challenge in the second 75‑lap segment. Nineteen drivers have already secured a spot in the final race, while six additional competitors will earn their place through performance metrics. A fan vote will also grant one more driver a spot, ensuring the audience plays a direct role in shaping the lineup.
Locked‑In Contenders and the Road Ahead
Among the drivers already guaranteed a place in the finale are Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Ross Chastain, William Byron, Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs, Austin Cindric, Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick, Chase Briscoe, Austin Dillon, Shane Van Gisbergen, Josh Berry, Carson Hocevar, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott. Their presence sets the stage for a high‑stakes showdown, while the remaining participants will battle for the final slots based on stage results and the fan vote.
For fantasy enthusiasts, the points system has been recalibrated to reflect the unique layout. On DraftKings, the 350‑lap total translates into 157.5 potential fastest‑lap points and 87.5 points for laps led. FanDuel, by contrast, awards 35 laps‑led points and 35 laps‑completed points to drivers who miss the final segment, meaning those who finish 27th through 36th will not receive extra credit for additional laps.
What’s at Stake Beyond the Trophy
Beyond the prestige of winning the All‑Star event, drivers will finish between 27th and 36th based on their average performance across the first two segments if they fall short of the final race. This placement can influence momentum heading into the remainder of the season, adding an extra layer of intrigue for teams and supporters alike.
