2K Foundations, the philanthropic arm of video‑game publisher 2K, has unveiled a fully refurbished basketball court at the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco’s Excelsior Clubhouse, turning the space into a daily hub for local youth and emphasizing healthy lifestyles, academic success, and community engagement.
Celebrating Community and Sport
The ribbon‑cutting ceremony, held on a bright May morning, drew club members, students from the adjacent SF Community School, and community leaders who gathered to celebrate the transformation of the gym into a vibrant gathering place.
Rob Connolly, President of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting how safe, inspiring spaces empower children between the ages of six and 18 to thrive.
Ronnie Singh, Head of Lifestyle & Content Marketing at 2K, spoke about the importance of creating safe spaces for kids to play and grow, noting that the renovated court reflects the foundation’s broader commitment to youth development.
Golden State Warriors guard Will Richard joined the celebration, adding a star‑studded presence that inspired the young players and reinforced the connection between professional sport and grassroots programs.
The event featured a ceremonial ribbon cutting, on‑court mini‑games and prize giveaways, creating a festive atmosphere that underscored the court’s role in fostering healthy lifestyles and academic achievement.
The project marks the latest milestone in 2K Foundations’ global initiative, which has now refurbished more than 56 basketball courts across Kenya, Nigeria, Japan, India, Spain, Canada, Australia and the United States, underscoring a worldwide effort to promote sport among underserved communities.
Beyond the court in San Francisco, the Excelsior Clubhouse operates more than 225 days each year, welcoming over 200 children daily, making it a cornerstone of after‑school programming in the city.
