The Pittston Area baseball program continues to cement its reputation as a powerhouse in the Wyoming Valley, highlighted by recent All-State recognitions that underscore the team’s sustained excellence.
Beau Widdick, a senior shortstop, earned first-team Class 5A honors, a testament to his all-around offensive production that included a .459 batting average, 27 runs scored, 34 hits, seven doubles, five triples and 15 stolen bases.
Jacoby Harnen, the team’s catcher, was selected to the second-team All-State list after batting .431 and leading the squad with three home runs and 25 stolen bases, while also providing strong defensive leadership behind the plate.
All-State Selections Reflect Teamwide Commitment
Their individual accolades are part of a broader narrative of success: Pittston Area repeated as Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champions and captured the District 2 Class 5A title, before advancing to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament.
The recognition extends beyond the senior class, as sophomore Dominic Marranca of Holy Redeemer was named a second-team choice at the Class 2A level as an infielder, illustrating the depth of talent in the region.
Widdick has committed to continue his career at the Division I level with the University of Maine, a move that promises to bring further attention to the area’s developing baseball pipeline.
The achievements are celebrated not only by players and coaches but also by the broader baseball community, including the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association, which has long championed the sport’s growth across the state.
