A Boost for the Commodores
Shane Brinham, a left‑handed pitcher who topped the transfer portal rankings at No. 29 by Baseball America, announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
During his freshman season at Michigan, Brinham posted a 3.88 earned‑run average over 65 innings, striking out 61 batters while walking 35. He earned two complete‑game shutouts, one against Oregon and another versus Ohio State, and was selected to the Big Ten All‑Freshman team.
Standing 6‑foot‑1 and 181 pounds, the Michigan native throws a low‑90s fastball paired with a slider, curveball and changeup, a repertoire that should give the Commodores depth in their weekend rotation.
Vanderbilt’s pitching staff has been thin after the team missed the NCAA Tournament last season, making Brinham’s addition a timely boost as the program looks to rebuild its rotation for the upcoming campaign.
