The Lakeview South Park basketball court in Lorain is undergoing a major renovation that will transform the aging facility into a modern, accessible recreation hub.
Funded by a $15,000 grant from the Lorain Lions Club, supplemented by $6,362 raised through community fundraising, the $20,000 project adds a durable concrete overlay, new basketball poles, backboards, hoops, nets, two sleek bleachers and a five‑foot‑wide ADA‑compliant walkway.
The upgrades also include ADA‑compliant features designed to ensure that players of all abilities can enjoy the court, reflecting a broader commitment to inclusive public spaces.
The transformation will be celebrated with a grand reopening ceremony at 10 a.m. on July 11 at the park located at 1815 W. Erie Ave.

The event will feature remarks from Lorain Lions Club President Doug Krucinski and Mayor Jack Bradley, and will showcase the newly painted Lions Clubs International blue and yellow surface, complete with the organization’s logo at center court.
Youth participants under 18 will have the chance to enter a raffle for 40 yellow gift bags filled with water bottles and 50 basketballs, while light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
Mitchell J. Fallis, marketing director of the Lorain Lions Club, emphasized that the project embodies the club’s dedication to youth, humanitarian service and the creation of accessible community spaces.
Beyond the court itself, the renovation represents an investment in neighborhood pride, recreational opportunities for young people and a model for future public‑private partnerships across the region.
