Duke University is entering the 2026 college football season with a recalibrated defensive outlook after a wave of departures through the transfer portal, leaving the Blue Devils with both uncertainty and opportunity.
At the center of the rebuilding effort is sophomore standout Bryce Davis, a four‑star recruit who arrived on campus with high expectations and was ranked the nation’s fifth‑best edge prospect by 247Sports.
During his freshman campaign Davis contributed on special teams and as a reserve, recording ten total tackles and a pass deflection, showing flashes of the disruptive ability that made him a highly rated prospect.
Coach Manny Diaz praised Davis’s work ethic and football IQ, noting that his ability to locate gaps and collapse onto offensive linemen gives the Blue Devils a versatile weapon.
Alongside Davis, veterans such as Tyshon Reed and Kevin O'Connor return to anchor the line, while classmates Cooper Barkate, Chandler Rivers, Wesley Williams and Vincent Anthony Jr. are expected to add depth and experience.
